Sharing Help

How to allow your teachers or classmates to view and/or edit the work you save in your My Stuff folder.

What is sharing?

If you want your teacher or another student to see or edit a Project or Page in your My Stuff folder, you need to "Share" that item with them.

  • Go to the item you'd like to share.
  • Click the "Sharing" tab near the top of the page.

Find the person you want to share with.

  • Use the search box on the "Sharing" tab to find the person you want to share your item with.
  • Keep your search term simple. For instance, if you want to share your item with James Brown, just type "brown" in the box (without the quotes) and click on "Search." This will avoid problems like not finding "James Brown" because he's listed as "Jim Brown."
  • Identify the correct user or users from the list of results.

Give them the right permissions.

After you've found the right person to share your item with, which permissions do you give them?

  • If you just want your teacher or friend to be able to look over your work, give them the "Can view" permission.
  • If you are working on a project with a friend and you want them to be able to work on your item, give them the "Can edit" permission.
  • If you are working on a project with a friend and you'd like them to be able to add pages, etc. to your folder, give them the "Can add" permission.
  • Check all appropriate permission boxes for the person you want to share with.
  • Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the form.

Let people know that you've shared something with them.

There are two ways to let someone know that you've shared your Page or Project with them.
  • To do either, you must know the person's email address.
  • Choose the way you want to send the URL, or the web address, for the item you have shared.
    • 1st Option:  Copy the URL of the item you have shared and email it to your teacher or friend.
    • 2nd Option:  Click on the "Send this" link in the lower right-hand part of the page you have shared, fill out the form that pops up, and click on "Send" at the bottom of the form.

  • Regardless of which option you choose, make sure the link you send to your teacher or friend is the one that leads directly to the item you are sharing.  It should not be the link that ends in /@@sharing

How do people access what you've shared with them?

The people you send a link to will need to do two things.

  • 1st: Click on the link in the email they receive, which should take them to an OSLIS login screen.

  • 2nd: Log in using their personal OSLIS user name and password, not the ones for Gale.
  • They should now be able to see the item you shared and make changes to it.  Later, when you log in to your My Stuff folder, you will be able to see the changes made by your teacher or classmate.
